KXIP vs CSK: Things are getting interesting. We’ve seen Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Punjab at their very own den, which added a massive boost to their playoff hopes. Delhi, on the other hand, managed to defeat Rajasthan comfortably playing home.
Chennai, on one hand, would like to finish in the top 2, and go to playoffs on a high. Punjab, on the other hand, would not just like to win it tomorrow against Chennai but would need to win it big to correct their net run rate to have a very very faint chance to qualify for the playoffs. Doesn’t look likely though, especially considering their net run rate of -0.351.
CAN KXIP GO THROUGH?
They are a lot dependant on the RCB vs SRH game, basis which their fate would be decided. If SRH win it tonight, Punjab would be straight out and Kolkata Knight Riders would need to win it big against Mumbai on the night of 5th May.
The biggest factor here is Sunrisers Hyderabad and their very positive net run rate. Also, the recent defeat against Mumbai which went to the super over, being a tie didn’t affect it much. They are still sitting pretty at the 4th spot with a very positive net run rate of +0.653.
With Rajasthan now out of the race after the Delhi bashing and Punjab virtually out (considering their poor net run rate and further playing against the table toppers), it’s only Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers clearly in the race for the 4th spot.
Kings XI Punjab, however, would love to end their campaign on a high pleasing their home fans. Furthermore, because an RCB victory against SRH tonight and CSK victory against Punjab tomorrow, would mean Punjab would finish at the bottom of the table. No escape from that for R. Ashwin! He can’t ‘Mankad’ his way out this time.
A win tomorrow against CSK (considering it’s a close game) may mean, they can finish positively at the 6th spot.
